You spoke and Federal News Radio listened! Over the past few weeks, we held some focus groups with Federal News Radio listeners and FederalNewsRadio.com users. One thing you told us is that you would like our stories, interviews, and reports organized by topic.

Well, we’ve taken your advice. Check out the various news categories we’ve developed at the bottom of the FederalNewsRadio.com homepage or on our Newsstand page — pay and benefits, contracting, best practices/management, technology, cybersecurity, defense, Congress, web 2.0, homeland security, health IT, stimulus/recovery, Federal News Radio special reports, Mike Causey’s Federal Report (daily pay and benefits news), DorobekInsider (blog by anchor Chris Dorobek), Fed Cloud blog (information on cloud computing), government news, U.S. news, world news, and business news.

You’ll notice each of these categories also has its very own RSS feed giving you a lot of flexibility when it comes to receiving news from FederalNewsRadio.com.

New Feature on FederalNewsRadio

Wow! It sure has been a long time. So much is happening at Federal News Radio. We are working really hard to make our site more user friendly. (Comments are always welcome!) So let us know what you think!

The newest feature I want to tell you about is something I affectionately refer to as the FederalNewsRadio “dump” page. While it sounds silly, it really is a good word to describe what we have created.

We noticed that we really didn’t have a place where all of our stories could live once they were removed from our “Today’s News” section. While you could find all of these stories if you searched hard enough that didn’t seem like a good system to continue. Now, all FederalNewsRadio content is being housed in one central location. You can get to our “More News” section from our homepage. Click on the More News link at the bottom of the Today’s News section or click on “More News” in the Newsstand dropdown menu at the top of the homepage.

Marathon Madness

How cool is it that two of Federal News Radio’s anchors are planning to run in this year’s Marine Corps Marathon?!

Daily Debrief co-host Amy Morris and Federal Drive host Tom Temin will both run the 26.2 miles on October 25, 2009.

We’ll be chronicling their training regiment right here on Off Mic, giving you a behind-the-scenes look at what goes into training for a marathon and why in the world these two decided this was a good idea

Federal News Radio Special Reports

Federal News Radio has created a Special Reports section on our website for some of the longer, multi-part series that you’ve been hearing on the air. Amy Morris just started her Beneath the Green Dome series where she’s investigating how the Capitol building has become more environmentally friendly over the past few years and how your agency can benefit from what the Capitol has already done.

We also continue our SAMMIES Tracker series where we interview each of the 30 finalists for the Service to America Medals given out in September. These federal employees are chosen for their extremely innovative and life-changing work and each has a very unique story that Federal News Radio is bringing to life.

You won’t find these stories anywhere else so be sure to check them out!

How many tweets per day is normal? What is overwhelming or even annoying to the people following us? Any suggestions would be welcome!

Those of you who are following FedNewsRadio on Twitter may have noticed over the last few days that the number of tweets from us has increased significantly. We are now automatically feeding many of our RSS feeds to Twitter (using Twitterfeed) including RSS feeds from each of our daily shows (Federal Drive, In Depth, and Daily Debrief), our columnists, and weekly shows like Ask the CIO, Agency of the Month, Ask the CHCO, and Federal Security Spotlight. More will be added in the days ahead. The RSS feeds for these shows are located right on each of the individual show pages so feel free to add them to the list of feeds you subscribe to as well!

New Facebook Page

Federal News Radio now has an official Facebook page. Before today we were only operating a group but now we’ve taken the next step and set up an official page! It’s still a work in progress but we’d love for you to become a fan and suggest that others do as well. We’ll be adding pictures, video, and feeds of our latest stories to the page.
